Copycat Subway Italian Herb & Cheese Bread: A homemade delight packed with Italian flavors and a cheesy infusion perfect for sandwiches.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or provolone)
  • Additional herbs for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, salt, olive oil, and Italian seasoning, mixing well to form a dough.
  3. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic, incorporating shredded cheese.
  4. Place kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and allow to rise in a warm area for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, shape into loaves, and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush tops with olive oil and sprinkle with herbs.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake loaves for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped.
  7. Let bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.
